Education

kidsicarnICARN offers forums for prospective adoptive parents and their family members and friends to hear from parents who have adopted from a number of countries.

The evenings include:

  • Adoptive parents who will tell their individual stories
  • Intercountry Adoption Paediatrician on health
  • An audio visual presentation on what to expect at and beyond allocation
  • An adult adoptee who will give their prospective on being adopted and of their lives in an adoptive family
  • Question and answer panel

These forums are a wonderful opportunity to hear first hand experiences of intercountry adoption and to develop a greater understanding of intercountry adoption for all in attendance.

It is also one of the few opportunities that extended family members have to hear first hand experiences of the intercountry adoption process, and also to have their own questions and concerns addressed.

ICARN offers regular opportunities to meet informally with other couples before allocation at the “waiting” stage and also after, once families have been created. These meetings represent valuable information sharing opportunities.

ICARN also liases with the Intercountry Adoption Service in the running of other specific workshops throughout the year. Details of these will be advertised as they are scheduled.Members are able to access a range of excellent books and reference material from the ICARN library as part of their membership.
