About Us

Welcome to the ICARN website.

You may be interested in this website for a number of reasons, but if it is because you are thinking of intercountry adoption as a way of establishing your family, then you have come to the right place.

Through us you will have a great opportunity to meet like minded individuals and families who have already successfully gone down the intercountry adoption path and we welcome the opportunity to share our experiences and support you through your journey.

Who are we?

ICARN (Intercountry Adoption Resource Network) Australia is a thriving parent support group that offers advice, support and a range of educational and social activities for those already involved in intercountry adoption and for those who are thinking of adopting from an overseas country.

Formed over 16 years ago by a small number of adoptive parents ICARN has grown to nearly 200 members/families in Victoria with another 100 associates worldwide.

For those considering intercountry adoption ICARN offers opportunities to learn first hand from those who have experienced the process and to learn of the emotions and the challenges involved in adopting a child born in an overseas country.

For those already on the adoption journey, ICARN offers this plus support and advocacy and a range of educational tools.

Once families and children are members, ICARN offers many opportunities for interaction with other intercountry adoptive families and for contact between children of the same culture and other cultural backgrounds. This gives ICARN its rich and diverse cultural mix.
